Damage to shell platings in sub-standard ports!
Today the administrations and classifications societies keeps an sharp eye on the vessels, making sure that they stick to the rules, regulations and recommendations applicable to it.
However, who keeps an yes on the ports, Pilots and other parties who are involved in a ship’s safe maneuvering from the sea buoy to the berth?
In this MARS report we can read about a tanker which got damages in the hull due to lack of information, lack of surveying, a substandard Pilot, wrong dimension of tugs etc.
This is a quite common scenario when the ships are not suitable for the ports/berths used.
Read about this in the MARS report for February 2013.
